LG Display is reportedly set to ship a couple million panels for the next iPad for the third quarter of 2013.

According to a report from DigiTimes, "industry sources" claimed LG Display is expected to ship 2.5 to 3-million units for Apple's iPad tablets. Of the figures provided, one to two million are for the iPad 5.

The panels produced by LG Display for the fifth-generation iPad are reported to have a resolution of 2,048x1,536.

The sources added that the tablet is set to be lighter and thinner than previous 9.7-inch iPads as it will have only one light tube in its backlight instead of the traditional two.

In regards to the iPad mini, LG Display is "making new headway" in producing Retina Display for the 7.9-inch tablet. The sources familiar with LG Display stated two to three million units panels will be shipped ahead of its October release date. The release date debunks statements made by a few analysts stating an early 2014 launch was a possibility.

As CNET noted, Citi Research and NPD DisplaySearch analysts projected a 2014 launch for the iPad mini with Retina Display. Latinos Post reported earlier this week on China's Economic Daily News stating Apple might delay the iPad mini with Retina Display until the first quarter of 2014. The delay comes a week after "supply chain sources" claimed the iPad mini 2 would likely be delayed due to the inclusion of Retina Display.

Other rumors about the iPad mini 2 include a delayed launch date to avoid a sales clash with the iPad 5.
