William Levy will go to jail in his new soap opera "La Tempestad."

Televisa revealed images where Levy is in a penitentiary and interacting with inmates. The actor told the press that the time he spent shooting in the correctional center, he realized the difficulties the inmates must traverse. Levy was able to speak to some of them and revealed that the inmates told him their stories. The Cuban actor said that they were fortunate to have food, electricity and roof because many people from his native Cuba are starving and have no homes.

Levy said that the experience was enriching and that it was difficult to hear the stories because many of the inmates claimed they were innocent while others regretted what they had done.

The actor thanked the inmates for their humility and for cooperating with production.

While speaking to reporters, Levy also revealed that the reason his character, Capitan Fabre, was in jail was because he was accused of killing his wife Estela (Laura Carmine) in the novela.

The actor also confirmed that his character would finally cut his hair once he entered jail. He told the press that the change was written into the script from the beginning and that many of his fans were upset while others were really happy.

Levy concluded that his character would also transform and become a more intelligent man once he left jail.

"La Tempestad" is based on the popular Colombian telenovela "La Tormenta" and is said to be the most expensive series ever produced in Mexico. It also stars Ximena Navarrete, Mariana Seoane, Arturo Peniche, Ivan Sanchez, Jessica Coch, Diana Bracho, Cesar Evora, Alfonso Herrera and Luis Manuel Avila. Christina Aguilera and Alejandro Fernandez sang the theme to the series entitled "Hoy Te Ganas de Ti." The telenovela is set to air in the U.S. in July on Univision.
