Honduras and El Salvador will face off in the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2013 on Friday.

Honduras is coming off a 2-0 victory against Haiti despite being outplayed throughout the game. Los Catrachos were lucky that Haiti failed to convert their chances and that the score wound up going their way.

They will take on a Salvadorian squad that battled to a 2-2 draw against a good Trinidad and Tobago team. The squad fell behind at the 11-minute mark but mounted a comeback and took the lead in the 69th minute. Unfortunately, Trinidad and Tobago scored four minutes later to steal away a vital two points from El Salvador.

Honduras can clinch a spot in the knockout rounds with a win against El Salvador. If Haiti wins its match, the Honduras could potentially play for a draw against Trinidad and Tobago to clinch the top spot in the group.

Honduras and El Salvador have faced off 58 times in their history dating back to 1930. Honduras holds a clear advantage with 31 wins, 15 draws, and 12 losses. In recent years, Honduras has been extremely dominant with only two losses against El Salvador in their last 29 matches; seven of those games have ended in draws. However, the two nations have battled to draws in their last three confrontations. On Jan. 18, 2013, the teams drew 1-1 in an international friendly.

Prediction: Honduras knows that it needs to be better than it was against Haiti. Look for Los Catrachos to assert themselves early on and come away with a 3-0 win.
