Fans of the "Ratchet and Clank" series have been clamoring for Insomniac to make a traditional game starring the Lombax and his robotic pal, especially because recent games in series have focused on multiplayer action.

But now Insomniac has announced the first true follow up to 2009's "A Crack in Time," entitled "Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus."

IGN has an exclusive preview of the game, which will appear on the PlayStation 3. The game will feature the duo taking on enemies and solving puzzles, and will include the game's trademark humor. But, possibily as a response to the family-friendly atmosphere and plot of the recent entries in the series, Insomniac's Brian Allgeier stated that the team thought it would be "fun to take [the series] in a spookier direction."

The game will also focus on puzzles, with Ratchet and Clank traveling to 2-D platforming areas called Netherverses. By completing these areas, previously closed parts of the game become unlocked.

The preview also revealed several new weapons that will be a part of the game, showing off the series' trademark crazyness. One weapon, the Nightmare Box, causes enemies to flee in terror or attack the box, giving the user a chance to pick off the distracted enemies. A similar weapon, the Repulsor, levitates enemies and gives Ratchet a chance to take them down. In the tradition of other guns that transform enemies into goofy objects and animals, the Winterizer will turn the bad guys into snowmen, as "Jingle Bells" plays from the weapon.

Not much of the story is revealed in the preview, but it was announced that the game will serve as an epilogue of the "Ratchet and Clank: Future" story. The game will be available on $29.99 when it is released, so PlayStation 3 owners should look out for the game, whenever it comes out.
