Where have all the vampires gone? Although it's summer vacation in Mystic Falls, the small eerie town will never be the same. The Originals have left for New Orleans, while the majority of the gang is headed off the Whitmore College. It's going to be a big year for all our favorite vampires, which is why fans are eagerly waiting to catch up with the bloodsuckers this fall with the return of both "The Vampire Diaries" and the debut of "The Originals," which will portray, unsurprisingly, the Originals as they rebuild their lives down in New Orleans.

In anticipation of the new spin-off series, The CW has revealed a slew of photos via the show's Facebook page. The photos are graded with a rustic weathered tone to remind fans that although they may look young and healthy, the Originals are centuries old. The photos are complete with ominous symbols that suggest the presence of mythical beings, which indeed they are. Check them out above.

In a recent interview with TVRage, Daniel Gillies, who plays Elijah on both shows, opened up about what fans can expect from the new series that centers around the original vampires from Mystic Falls, hence the name "The Originals."

"I think it's going to be a lot more about family. The writing always returns to family. The bonds and, dare I say it, sometimes the manacles of family," Gillies said while comparing the show to "The Vampire Diaries." "I think it's going to be a little darker. I think it's going to be a little bit more adult."

That makes sense, as Elijah and the other Originals are older than most of "The Vampire Diaries" cast, but Gillies assures that there's more to it.

"Well actually, [Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon] is the same age as us," he said. "Even though we're supposed to be hundreds of years old and in theory there's not much difference in age between us and the other vamps, I think we still have to write accordingly, especially when you're writing new lovers into a story."

"The Originals" will debut on The CW this fall.
