Jimmie Johnson earned his second win at Daytona International Speedway this year, winning the Coke Zero 400 and sweeping at the legendary racetrack, become the fifth driver to accomplish the feat, first since Bobby Allison did it in 1982.
"I didn't have the slightest clue, to be honest with you," said the five-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion. "I didn't know until I climbed from the car and television mentioned it. I had no idea."
A caution flag was raised with 11 laps to go,after Denny Hamlin spun hard into the front-stretch wall, getting slammed by AJ Allmendinger, causing a six-car accident.
The race resumed with seven laps left, with Johnson leading Kasey Kahne, when the caution flag came out with five laps to go, after Marcos Ambrose clipped Johnson and slammed into the side of Kahne, causing him to spin out and hit the retaining wall.
The race continued under a gr een-white-checkered flag (two overtime laps) with Johnson leading Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer, Tony Stewart, and Jamie McMurray, before the caution flag was raised on the last lap again after Danica Patrick spun out control.
"I just watched the replay. It felt like I ran just along the wall but it could have been me that came down in front of the No. 38 (Gilliland)," said Patrick, who was running in the Top 10, after the race. "It definitely wasn't what I was trying to do at all. I was just following the No. 88 (Dale Earnhardt Jr.). So, if that's what happened, then I definitely apologize. I lost spots doing it."
Johnson staved off Harvick, Bowyer, Stewart, and McMurray staying ahead prior to the last caution flag being raised, extending his Sprint Cup points lead to 49 points over Bowyer and tying Matt Kenseth with a season-leading four wins at the season's halfway point.
