The Philadelphia Flyers have signed goalie Ray Emery to a one-year deal on the first day of free agency.

According to TSN, the deal will pay the netminder $1.65 million. Emery is coming off a terrific season with the Chicago Blackhawks in which he posted a 17-1-0 record in 21 regular-season games. He also boasted a terrific 1.94 goals-against average and wound up winning the Stanley Cup with the club.

This will be Emery's second stint with the Flyers; he played with the club during the 2009-10 season.

"I had the chance to play with Emery before," Flyers Captain Claude Giroux said. "He's a good teammate and a great goalie."

Emery will now compete for the starting job with Steve Mason. The latter netminder was acquired by the Flyers in a trade with Columbus Blue Jackets during the trade deadline and posted a 4-2-0 record with a 1.90 GAA and a .944 save percentage. However, Mason's career numbers include a 2.87 GAA and a below-average .905 save percentage.

The Flyers' goaltending situation has been in constant turmoil for years; seemingly every season the team's been unable to find a suitable franchise backstopper.

Here are some Twitter reactions for signing.
