Following the announcement of Samsung's Galaxy S4 LTE Advanced (LTE-A), reports stated Apple may follow the same direction.

According to The Korea Times, the speculated iPhone 5S may be the first Apple smartphone to offer double the 4G data speeds.

An SK Telecom executive, who requested to remain anonymous, said, "SK Telecom is approaching Apple to put our LTE-A technology on the upcoming iPhone 5S. We are in the middle of negotiations."

The LTE-A data would help enable devices, such as the iPhone 5S, to reach download speeds of 150Mbps, which is twice as fast compared to the current iPhone 5.

"There's no reason for Apple not to use the LTE-A technology," the SK Telecom executive added.

Are there plans to launch LTE-A data speeds in the U.S.?

The answer is not yet as the claim is Apple would use South Korea as a testing pad if there's substantial interest in the new technology.

However, T-Mobile has reportedly expressed interest in rolling out the new network by the end of 2013 and Verizon Wireless plans "to lead" on LTE-A, according to Laptopmag.com.

The Galaxy S4 LTE-A is the first device to take advantage of the upgraded version of LTE.
