Fans of ABC's magical world of "Once Upon a Time" have been eagerly waiting for news not only on their favorite show, but also its new spinoff series "Once Upon a Time in Wonderland." Not much has been revealed about the limited series since it was announced in May but fans will be happy to hear that it may not be as "limited" as it was first announced to be.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the new drama is expected to grow from its original 13 episode order. "We can't tell you how many, but the total is not 13 episodes and it's not 22," EW reported. The reason behind the early extension is that "Wonderland" creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis plan to have a "self-contained epic romance" that will start and finish within the allotted episode numbers.

Kitsis explained, "We really want to tell the story without having to worry about how to stretch it for five years." Horowitz added, "The upfront order will be it for the season. This is not meant to be a 22-episode season. Whatever it ends up being, we'll have told a complete story, with a beginning, middle and end."

The first season of the new drama will focus on the romance between Wonderland's Alice (Sophie Lowe) and a genie by the name of Cyrus (Peter Gadiot). And while the first season would only focus on Alice and Cyrus' relationship, the creators would not be opposed to future seasons. "ABC will renew the show for another close-ended adventure if the show is a success," EW reported.

"If the audience responds and people love these characters, the plan would be to bring it back next year and tell a whole new story," Horowitz said.

"Once Upon a Time in Wonderland" will premiere this fall on Thursdays on ABC.
