Channing Tatum has revealed that he could direct the sequel to "Magic Mike."
The "White House Down" star told the Hollywood Reporter that he could make his directional debut in "Magic Mike 2." He stated, "Either [my producing partner] Reid Carolin and I will direct it together, or we'll have Greg Jacobs direct. He worked as a producer on the [2012] movie and has been Steven's right-hand man for almost 25 movies. Right now, we're just trying to clean up the story, and then we'll make a decision."
The actor also revealed that he would try to get the recently retired director Steven Soderbergh to be director of photographer on the script. "Steven has argued [for us to do so]. He has said he would shoot it; he would DP it. And there's another thing: Is that good? Because he is such an opinionated and talented man, if he wants to do a five-minute tracking shot through a forest, you don't want to doubt him."
He also revealed that the sequel would be a road trip type movie because audiences expected that from the original. "It will be a road-trip movie, and it will essentially be the movie that everyone thought the first one was going to be: crazy and fun and less slice-of-life and less drama. The first one, we had to make not so cheesy and campy; this one we are going to swing for the fences."
Tatum is currently promoting his new film "White House Down." The actor recently completed work on Bennett Miller's "Foxcatcher" which will be released in the fall and is set to star in the Wachowski Siblings new film "Jupiter Ascending" with Mila Kunis and Sean Bean.
"Magic Mike" was one of 2012's biggest hits garnering $113 million at the box office. The film also won numerous awards including nominations for Matthew McConaughey at the Broadcast Critics Choice Awards and the Independent Spirit Awards.
Warner Bros is slated to finance the sequel.
