One surprising bit of news that has gone largely unnoticed has finally come to the surface, and could indicate that that a popular series that has been on hiatus for several years could be returning to the Xbox One.
During the May 21 reveal event for the Xbox One, it appears as though the Crackdown logo appears in the bottom left corner on the Xbox One menu. IGN has spotted the logo, and asked Microsoft Game Studios vice president Phil Spencer during E3 if the logo indicated that Crackdown 3 was in the works, despite not being announced during the May 21 event or Microsoft's E3 press conference:
"Oh... Crackdown is one of my favorite games, and not just because it's a Microsoft first-party game...I have a lot of love for that franchise. The homage to Crackdown in the [May 21 event] reveal screenshots was... I know there was some, like, 'Did we accidentally sneak that...?' It wasn't accidental. Definitely."
In addition, Spencer confirmed that the Crackdown series is far from being dead, and Microsoft might be planning to use the Xbox One's highly touted cloud technology to bring the series back on a whole new level:
"No, I don't think Crackdown is dead at all...It's a franchise that's still close to me. I think there's a lot of room, especially... For me, the natural progression for a game like Crackdown - and you see this showing up on our stage - is in these living, open worlds that live in the cloud."
This definitely is good news for Crackdown fans, as the series has been MIA since Crackdown 2 was released in 2007. The open-world co-op action game has a fair share of fans, and the series could use the next-gen technology available in the Xbox One to really bring the game's full potential to light.
