If there's any indication that Sony is aggressively updating its lineup it's this: just days after officially letting loose Android 4.2.2 for the popular flagships the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL, it looks like the Japanese electronics manufacturer is gearing up to roll out Android 4.2.2 for the Xperia tablet  Z tablet as well.

Smartphones with Android 4.2.2 are hard to come by, and tablets running Google's latest version of its mobile operating system are even rarer. Sony-centric blog Xperia Blog managed to spot a new firmware for the Xperia Tablet Z on the PTCRB website. The listing shows that a certain firmware 10.3.A.0.407 was certified for the Xperia Tablet Z LTE model SGP321. As Xperia Blog notes, Sony firmwares beginning with 10.3.A are usually Android 4.2.2 - giving this a very good chance of being just that.

Xperia Blog spotted a similar posting regarding the Sony Xperia Z Android 4.2.2 update a while ago which turned out to be Android 4.2.2 as well, giving the blog some credence when it comes to Sony firmware updates.

Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is not a complete overhaul of Android 4.1, and it mostly introduces more options for customization alongside the usual bug and security fixes. Google's next big Android refresh will be coming later this year with Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. Google is expected to unveil Android 4.3 (still Jelly Bean) fairly soon, as a stepping stone between Android 4.2 and Android 5.0.
