Despite an ever increasing crescendo of rumors, Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has stated that Cristiano Ronaldo will remain at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Perez told 20minutes that his main priority this offseason is to keep the Portuguese superstar at the Bernabeu.

"He's our most important asset, and we will build the future of Madrid around him," he stated in the interview. "Soon we will clarify this issue. I have no doubt that Cristiano is going to retire at Real Madrid. I'm convinced that he'll renew. The renewals are done before the season starts."

Perez has repeatedly stated a variation on the same theme. A week ago the Blancos president noted that he expected negotiations between the two sides to begin soon.

"There are no open negotiations at the moment, that will be from July. My opinion is that Cristiano will retire at Real Madrid, that is his dream, and the club's too. Some people think that negotiations are done in the newspapers," said Perez. "I will do everything in my power to renew the contract. He has two years left on his contract, he is the best in the world and we would like to give a boost to the team with him as a leader and an emblem," said Perez. "I would not sell him for 1,000 million euros (1 billion Euros). We are not a selling club."

"I would bet Cristiano will retire at Real Madrid because it's the natural thing," he added. "We will negotiate the new contract before the start of La Liga and I am convinced that everything will come out well."

Perez will likely have to compete with Ronaldo as the forward has repeatedly offered contradictory responses to questions on the contract situation.

"All the news about my renewal with Real Madrid are false," Ronaldo said on his Twitter account back on June 14.
