HTC Ones around the world are eagerly awaiting new Android 4.2.2 software, and while there's still no news on when that will land, HTC has rolled out another, smaller update.

The firmware, 1.29.1540.17, however, is only available for unlocked and developer editions of the HTC One. It is a rather small patch, weighing in at only 17.55MB, and although it has already landed on HTC Ones, there is still no official changelog available. All that is known is that the update brings "System enhancements," meaning it most likely contains a series of optimization, bug, and security fixes.

While firmware 1.29.1540.17 is available over the air, it will take some time to reach all eligible HTC Ones and users will simply have to wait until the update hits their region. Rooted HTC Ones might need to be restored to factory settings before they can receive firmware 1.29.1540.17.

Regarding the upgrade everyone's been waiting for, Android 4.2.2, HTC still has not clarified when HTC One owners can expect it. Android 4.2.2 was initially expected to roll out last week after some comments by HTC's ambassador to France, Yves Wi, hinted that it would. Sadly, as time dragged on, it became clear that HTC was still in the process of ironing out some kinks before going public with an HTC One Android 4.2.2 firmware. No updated release time frame has been given.

Let us know if you've received firmware 1.29.1540.17 on your HTC One and any changes you've noticed in the comments section below.
