It may be summer break in Mystic Falls, but world's most beloved vampires are hard at work, for the most part at least. Regardless, they're still attracting the attention of their adoring fans, no matter what they do. So here's a brief update on how "The Vampire Diaries'" biggest stars are spending their summer breaks away from the set.

For starters, it looks like Ian Somerhalder is moving along swimmingly since his breakup with costar Nina Dobrev. During the 2013 BloodyCon "Vampire Diaries" panel in Germany, he cozied up next to costar Malese Jow, who plays Anna on the show. Jow posted a photo on her Twitter featuring the two looking dapper and cheery as ever, with Somerhalder's lips planted on Jow's cheek. It's likely nothing too serious, but Somerhalder's undoubtedly on the prowl.

In other "Vampire Diaries" news, actress Arielle Kebbel may not be returning to Mystic Falls for season 5. "It's important for me to let the fans know that they have truly helped to keep Lexi alive," Kebbel said. "I love the character deeply, and [executive producer] Julie Plec loves the character, and we are doing the best we can to continue keeping her alive."

"The exciting thing about Lexi is that you never know when she's going to pop up... but she absolutely can and most likely will," she said. "We've had some talk [about Lexi possibly appearing on the upcoming spin-off series 'The Originals'], but that's uncharted territory, so they're still figuring out how they want to handle that."

Finally, in rather odd news, husband of former "Vampire Diaries" actress Shannon Guess, who was arrested for allegedly sending a ricin-laced letter to President Barack Obama, says his wife sent the letter to be famous. "She wanted to get her face out there," he said. Quite a desperate attempt for a taste of fleeting fame.

"The Vampire Diaires" will return to The CW in the fall.
