Recent news has many Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 owners disappointed, for it seems that Android 4.2.2 won't be landing on their handsets as soon as most had hoped. What does this mean for Samsung Galaxy S2 users? Sadly, it's bad news.

Samsung was initially expected to roll out Android 4.2.2 for the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 smartphones sometime in June. Sadly, however, it looks like Samsung may have run into some kinks concerning the new TouchWiz user interface. Android 4.2.2 for the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 has now been delayed until Q3 2013.

This can only mean one thing for the Galaxy S2: it's going to have to wait for Android 4.2.2. If the delay is indeed due to TouchWiz (Samsung has not officially confirmed this), then that can only spell loads of trouble for the Galaxy S2. TouchWiz is the front-end interface Samsung layers on top of stock Android. Samsung is planning on packaging the Galaxy S4 version of TouchWiz, complete with all the new gesture controls and bells and whistles, into its Android 4.2.2 updates. If the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 handsets are having trouble running TouchWiz, then you can bet the Galaxy S2 is even less equipped to handle the workload.

Samsung has always updated its newer handsets before older ones, indicating that even if the Galaxy S2 is running TouchWiz fine, Samsung will still probably hold off on pushing Android 4.2.2 out until the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 are taken care of.

Lucky for us, Q3 2013 begins in July, only a few weeks away. If everything goes smoothly, Samsung could have the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 updated in July, and the Galaxy S2 soon after.

Android 4.2.2 is expected to be the last Android version update Samsung releases for the Galaxy S2.
