Although the official first day of summer is still a few days off, the hot and humid months have already arrived. Despite technicalities, summer is here, and it's here to stay. During the long months, vampire fans will be without their weekly blood-sucking fix, as "The Vampire Diaries" won't be returning until fall. That's a long ways away, however the prospect of a concurrent spin-off series softens the blow. When the vampire drama returns to The CW this fall, fans will get a double dose. "The Vampire Diaries" will return to its Thursday night slot, while its spin-off, "The Originals," will claim Tuesdays. Two times the vampires, what could be sweeter?

In anticipation of the series debut, Joseph Morgan, who plays Klaus in "The Vampire Diaries" and now in "The Originals," tweeted a photo from the set to provide fans with a tiny taste of what's to come.

The photo doesn't reveal much, and his caption, "Today @CharlesMD and I got a little crazy. All will become clear..." only sparks the curiosity of fans. They know that he's been cruel and unforgiving in the past, and the photo of a bloody(?) and/or glowing(?) footprint does not bode well. Check out the photo below.

The co-star who he mentions in his tweet, Charles Michael Davis, plays Marcel, who fans learned in the backdoor pilot episode, which aired during the final episodes of the fourth season of "The Vampire Diaries," is just as malicious as Klaus can be. With the two of them together, plus an ominous tweet, it's safe to say that there's plenty of dark, twisted vampire cruelty on the horizon.

Morgan is also starring in the lead role in the upcoming film "Dermaphoria," an adaptation of Craig Clevenger's cult novel that follows a chemist who wakes up in jail with amnesia after a drug-lab explosion. Morgan will play the chemist, who will be "trapped between cops who want to arrest him and heavies who will stop at nothing to get the formula buried deep inside his head."

It's going to be a long summer for Morgan, but fans cannot wait to see the inevitable pay-off.
