With the recent ending of E3 2013, gamers should not expect very many games to be announced anytime soon.

Any new games that will be announced for the next generation of consoles (or even the current ones, as some games such as Destiny set to come to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the spring of 2014, leaving plenty of life left in the consoles) would have been revealed during the conference. However, that still does not stop some gamers to wonder about the franchises and games that were not shown during the event.

One of those franchises that was absent during this year's E3 was Crackdown, the Microsoft Studios open world game whose last appear was in 2010 with Crackdown 2 exclusively on the Xbox 360. Some fans have been wondering what the future holds for the series, and Microsoft's Phil Spencer has taken to Twitter to discuss the game:

"Crackdown is important to me.  Given right team and time its a franchise I'd like to see return..."

What can be taken from this tweet is that, though Crackdown has a very powerful ally in Spencer (if his love for the franchise is indeed genuine, as I can't imagine a Microsoft exec would be allowed to say that he didn't like a franchise), no plans currently exist to bring the franchise into the next-gen plans for the Xbox One. Based on his statement, the game is not even in any sort of planning stage, as he mentions finding the right developer to build the game.

This is undoubtedly a disappointment for Crackdown fans, as the game would benefit from the next-gen technology of the Xbox One to bring an even better open world co-op experience to life. After all, the beginning of a new console's life cycle is always a good time to get new IP's and struggling franchises off the ground, and Crackdown could have been one of those that made a leap on the Xbox One. Perhaps we will see Crackdown 3 in the future, but for now it looks like it will be some time before we see the franchise return.
