If a certain duo is right, then humans of the future will look rather...bulbous. According to a pair of visionaries, mankind will gain mastery over our genetics and begin furthering some strange looking but vital characteristics over the next 100,000 years.

Visual artist and writer Nickolay Lamm teamed up with Dr. Alan Kwan, who received a PhD in computational genetics from the Washington University, to outline what physiological changes would happen to humans over the next 100,000 years based off a scenario created by Lamm. In this future, humans have ditched Google Glass for communication lenses embedded in contacts, and have defeated Mother Nature to free themselves from the constraints of natural evolution, genetically altering themselves to their advantage.

The result: a race that features some eye-popping (literally) anime-esque features.

You can view slideshow up top showing off Lamm's idea of what humans will look like 100,000 years, 60,000 years, and 20,000 years from now based off a photograph from today.

Kwan, who wrote the article detailing the reasoning behind the projections, stated that human heads, most noticeably the forehead portion, would grow larger to accommodate a larger brain. Other facial features would also be altered to better suit the inevitable space exploration phase mankind should eventually go through.

For instance, eyes could be manipulated to monstrous sizes in order to make up for the lack of light in dimmer planets further away from stars, and eyelids could be thicker to compensate for the disorientation that can result from the low gravity in space. Skin pigments should also become more popular, as more protection is needed against harmful cosmic rays.

Lamm and Kwan also believe that many other adustments will be made, such as adding a more effective tapetum lucidum to human eyes for improved night vision.

What do you think of Lamm and Kwan's vision for the future of mankind? Attractive enough?
