Samsung Galaxy Note 2 owners who expected to receive Android 4.2.2 sometime in June will have to deal with a delay in development, according to well-known Samsung-centric website SamMobile.
SamMobile, which is known for its insider information regarding Android builds on Samsung devices, recently stated on Twitter that Android 4.2.2 for the Galaxy Note 2 was delayed due to problems with the new TouchWiz, the user interface Samsung employs on top of stock Android.
Samsung has not confirmed nor denied the news, and the South Korean electronics manufacturer usually does not release much information about Android updates until they are ready to roll out.
It was just around one month ago that SamMobile revealed that Android 4.2.2 was scheduled to land on the Galaxy Note 2 sometime in June. Ten days after the initial report, SamMobile got its hands on a leaked Android 4.2.2 build for the Galaxy S3. The build, which is expected to be similar to the one that will hit Galaxy Note 2s, shows a large Galaxy S4 influence.
The new TouchWiz will borrow heavily from the Galaxy S4's revamped interface. The Galaxy S4 runs Android 4.2.2, and the Android 4.2.2 update for the Galaxy Note 2 is expected to bring the phablet's experience up to date with the latest flagship device. Samsung employed a similar strategy last year and early this year, choosing to update the Galaxy S3, Galaxy S2, and Galaxy Note with features exclusive to the Galaxy Note 2, the latest high-profile Samsung release at the time.
As of now, there is no new release time frame, although given the fact that many competitors are set to bump up their handsets to Android 4.2.2 this summer, Samsung will most likely opt for a sooner-rather-than-later approach.
