Fans could not be more upset that there is a long summer in between them and the new season of "The Vampire Diaries." That's a long break from Mystic Falls, especially with so much new exciting vampire drama on the horizon as they head off to Whitmore College. In order to ease the pain, it's important to remember that not only will there be a fifth season of "The Vampire Diaries" come fall, but another brand new series featuring our favorite vampires called "The Originals" will also be making its debut. In anticipation of the new series, executive producer Julie Plec provided fans with a greater idea of what they can expect from "The Originals" during a chat at the ATX Television Festival.
When asked which vampires would be making the trek from Mystic Falls to New Orleans, Plec stated that there are "endless possibilities" and added that the biggest "challenge with 'The Originals' is to launch a new series that feels like a new series for people who haven't watched 'The Vampire Diaries' before."
Plec wants to avoid too much crossover that could potentially confuse viewers unfamiliar with the vampires' history. She said she will be "starting the show like it's a brand new show," but assured diehard "Vampire Diaries" fans that there will certainly be some parallel tones between the two series. "Klaus has a girl and Rebekah just came off a world tour with [Matt]. They both have history," she said.
One of the show's actresses, Danielle Campbell, also opened up about the series and how her character plays a central role. "I play Davina. She is a witch who has a lot of power. More power than is good for her. She is going to get caught in a power struggle between the supernatural New Orleans. There are a lot of surprises about her, so I'm really excited."
"The Originals" will air Tuesday nights on The CW starting this fall.
