Fans are always curious as to what happens in Mystic Falls during summer break. Throughout the year, they follow their favorite vampires as they face the everyday challenges of the modern high schooler, but once the hot summer months hit, they're gone until fall. Perhaps it's a good thing, allowing fans to enjoy the warm weather, breath fresh air, stretch their legs and put all the vampire drama behind them. Still, it's nice to check up on our adored bloodsuckers from time to time, just to see how they're doing. One of the show's biggest stars, Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon, is having a grand summer, and recent photos and tweets from his tour through Europe and Asia serve as blatant proof.

His latest tweets proves that he's currently having a blast in London, taking full advantage of his summer 'break.' Although he's currently free of any "Vampire Diaries" production, he's still hard at work, taking his career to the big screen.

"Sunshine in London- nothing like it.. I'm smiling ear to ear," Somerhalder wrote.

The vampire heartthrob is currently working on a new film, "The Anomaly." Somerhalder will star alongside Alexis Knapp, Brian Cox and Luke Hemsworth in Noel Clarke's upcoming film. "The Anomaly" is a sci-fi thriller that follows a former soldier who awakens in the back of a van with a young kidnapped victim by this side. He soon realizes that he has only nine minutes and 37 seconds to get a handle on the tense situation at hand. It's unclear as to why the soldier has such an odd allotted time period to figure things out, but perhaps that's all part of hype.

Production is underway in London and New York with Somerhalder on the London set, as his many tweets indicate.

"Wheels down in London- ciao beautiful Italy...," he wrote earlier this week. It's good to know that he's working hard but also getting some time to enjoy the sunshine, smiling ear to ear.
