Latin TV star Sofia Vergara pushed back at those who believe her character in "Modern Family," the fiery and temperamental Gloria Delgado, embodies a negative stereotype of the Latino community in the United States. Vergara defended her role on the popular sitcom by reaffirming a proud and strong personality not only in fiction, but one that is with her in every aspect of her life, according to an interview with CNN Latin America.

And although the popular Colombian actress regrets that her personality has not been well received by some viewers, she insists that the public image she's had since she reached fame responds only to her natural spontaneity and behavior.

"I am not afraid of stereotypes, and I do not pretend to be anything other than what I've always been. If the stereotype of the Latina woman coincides with a that of my mom, my aunt and my own personality, all I can say is that I love it. One thing I can say is that I will not hide or change radically to avoid offending some people. I'm proud of coming from a family of powerful, curvy and loud women," the actress told CNN.

"I wanted to take part in this initiative, obviously, because I feel personally connected to the treatment of hypothyroidism and because I wanted to create social awareness about the difficulties that those who have the problem face. This is also a way to send a message of hope and tranquility for those who suffer it, because with the help of a doctor and strong resolve everything can be controlled. But most importantly everyone has to give health the highest importance in life: if you're not healthy you can not enjoy anything, and I try to live a healthy life every day and do everything in moderation to be well," Vergara said.

Despite adversities that Sofia has dealt with throughout her career, the Colombian star says that the secret to her personal charm lies in her modesty and the fact that she has reached widespread fame at a mature stage.

"I did not have an easy youth, I spent many hardships and I know perfectly well that life is very hard. That has made me value success with intensity and has made me feel particularly grateful for the opportunities I've had. I always try to be in good spirits and happy with everything that life brings my way. I wake up happy to go to work, and I enjoy the most when things go well, because at any moment they can get worse. I can not let fame go to my head. It is not worth it and it's very dangerous: fame and happiness do not go together," Vergara said.
