In a move that is sure to divide fans, Warner Brothers and NetherRealm Studios have announced that the newest DLC character for Injustice: Gods Among Us is not a DC Comics creation at all. Instead, the masked ninja from Mortal Kombat known as Scorpion will be a playable character in the game.

Polygon is reporting that Scorpion has been given a slight redesign for Injustice: Gods Among Us by legendary artist Jim Lee, giving him a flashy yellow suit of armor reminiscent of his namesake. Polygon also has a gameplay video for Scorpion, which shows off his trademark moves and catchphrases. His moveset has also been tamed somewhat, as he cannot perform gory fatalities in the T-rated Injustice: Gods Among Us. Those who don't own the season pass must pay a fee of $5 on the Playstation Network, or 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live.

This is not the character's first foray into the world of DC Comics. The poorly-received Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe was released in 2008, and featured a wide variety of characters from both universes fighting it out.

Previous DLC characters for Injustice: Gods Among Us include Batgirl and Lobo. Scorpion was often mentioned as a possible DLC character, along with Martian Manhunter, Red Hood, and Zatanna. However, Scorpion was clearly a controversial choice even before he was confirmed to be the newest character. As can be seen in the comments section for both links, many do not approve of Scorpion's inclusion in the game. Some even go as far as to say that they are offended by the move, as they feel NetherRealm is attempting to get players to pay for a character they can play as in the newest Mortal Kombat game. It will be interesting to see how popular Scorpion ultimatly turns out to be when he is released in the near future.
