Now that fans have met the Mother, the ninth and final season of "How I Met Your Mother" couldn't come soon enough. The secret is out, so how will Ted and the rest of the gang react to the news? For eight seasons the series has revolved around the hidden identity of the Mother and the last will show how each character meets her face-to-face during Barney and Robin's wedding weekend.

Showrunner Carter Bays previously informed fans that the entire ninth season will take place over the course of the long, drawn out wedding weekend, chock full of flashbacks along the way. Fans also know that the Mother will be introduced to each of the show's characters individually, with Ted (Josh Radnor) being the last. That's a very long wedding weekend, so naturally fans were a bit skeptic as to how it would fit into such a tiny allotted timeframe, but recent rumors now suggest that the final season will be shorter than those prior.

Cory Barker, from TV.com, introduced the idea of shortening the final season in order to benefit the show. He claimed that a 15-episode season would improve the quality of season 9 and reintroduce the original charm that made "How I Met Your Mother" so lovable to begin with.

"Cutting down the number of episodes would give the show a chance to dial back on the super-broad and wacky 'comedy' that has plagued it in recent years and focus more on the emotional beats that it used to do so well," Barker wrote.

In Barker's eyes, a shorter season would benefit the show in more than one way. First, it would solve the problem of cramming so many episodes into a 72-hour time window, despite the inclusion of flashbacks. Second, it could potentially veer the show back to its roots. Barker claims it has drifted from it's heartfelt sentiments, but the final episode will document Robin (Colbie Smulders) and Barney's (Neil Patrick Harris) wedding weekend as well as introduce Ted to the Mother, so the romantic aspect should be present no matter what.

What do you think about a shorter "How I Met Your Mother" season to wrap things up?
