HTC One Update: Android 4.2.2 With Sense 5.1 Possibly Just Around The Corner

HTC's current flagship 1080p smartphone, the One, may currently run an older version of Android than its rival, the Samsung Galaxy S4, but that may soon all change. According to a well known HTC modder, Android 4.2.2 is just around the corner.

LlabTooFer, who has been known to consistently and reliably land his (or her) hands on HTC softwares ahead of their release, recently had this to tweet:

 "Android 4.2.2 for HTC One is very close," @LlabTooFer tweeted.

When asked whether the update would contain a new version of Sense, HTC's graphical user interface stacked on top of Google's stock Android, LlabTooFer said that the Android 4.2.2 upgrade would also bump the HTC One up from Sense 5 to Sense 5.1.

HTC has not confirmed a release date for the One's next update, so be wary of any unofficial sources. Still, LlabTooFer has been described by SlashGear as such: "almost as if he (or she) works with HTC in some way or another."

Android 4.2.2 will finally put the HTC One's Android operating system on par with the Samsung Galaxy S4 and other upcoming handsets. While Google is rumored to be releasing Android 4.3 soon, it would make sense for HTC to go ahead and push out Android 4.2.2 as soon as possible. After all, even older Samsung smartphones such as the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 are rumored to be receiving their taste of Android 4.2.2 soon. For HTC's flagship smartphone to fall behind a rival's older lineup in terms of Android versions would be incredibly embarrassing, especially for a company that's been plagued by supply shortages and a public image issue.

The HTC One featuers a 4.7-inch 1080p display, a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, and 2GB RAM. The sleek aluminum casing houses an "Ultrapixel" camera and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera.
