Many claim that Cristiano Ronaldo's unhappiness at Real Madrid is the result of not getting a substantial raise that would make him the highest paid player in the world. However, the team seems ready to do anything to retain its top star - even make his wish come true.

Reports indicate that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is willing to give Ronaldo the raise he has often dreamed of.

"We want to build the Madrid of the future around him," Perez told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser. "And I would like Cristiano to be the best-paid player in the world."

"Cristiano told me in the summer he was sad and I told him we would do everything possible for him to be content," he added. "I think Cristiano is the best player in the world."

Ronaldo became the highest paid player in the world back in 2009 when he was purchased by Real Madrid for 80 million pounds. However, the Portuguese superstar stated this past fall that he was "sad." He never disclosed his reasons, leading to speculation that he wanted a better payday. Ronaldo was subsequently linked with potential transfers throughout January, especially to such clubs as Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

Ronaldo has reportedly made mention of his desire to return to Manchester United and some fans have embraced the opportunity by launching an online campaign called "Bring Ronaldo Home." The intent of the promotion is to help raise money that could assist Manchester United in purchasing the forward from Real Madrid.

Ronaldo is signed with Madrid until 2015. He has previously stated that he will finish out his deal with Los Blancos before considering a transfer.
