Samsung Galaxy S3 users have something else to look forward to: an Android update. If the stars hold their position, Galaxy S3s worldwide should start seeing Android 4.2.2 before June passes.

It wasn't too long ago that well-known Samsung-centric website SamMobile leaked out a test build JDQ39 of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S3. The same report states that Samsung "will release the official final Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S III in June."      Despite the fact that the leaked build is not official, SamMobile does state that the firmware works as well as any official ones, which means the final release can't be too far off.

A June release date would make sense, as it would allow Galaxy S3 owners to get a taste of what Samsung's latest flagship phone, the Galaxy S4, has to offer - at least in terms of software features. Samsung has done a pretty robust job of keeping older handsets updated, and given the success of the Galaxy S3, the company is sure to want to please owners before Android fragmentation frustration sets in.

SamMobile does state that the leaked Android 4.2.2 build does not confirm whether or not the Galaxy S3 will receive the same camera options as the Galaxy S4 (which also runs Samsung's version of Android 4.2.2). Still, based on the leaked JDQ39, Galaxy S3 users can expect the following: a new, Galaxy S4-esque lockscreen with a new ripple effect; new screen modes; daydream mode; driving mode; a new S-Voice (Samsung's voice assistant) ripped straight from the Galaxy S4; actionable notifications; new gallery modes; and the host of security and performance tweaks that can be expected of any Android update.

Bear in mind, if the June date is to hold, that it will still take much longer until certain variants and carrier-tied Galaxy S3s receive their update.

Samsung has not yet confirmed any Galaxy S3 Android 4.2 details, and the carrier has delayed updates in the past, so be sure to swallow this report with a healthy helping of skepticism.
