Now that the return of "Arrested Development" is only a few days away, the reality is finally sinking in. When the news first broke, fans responded with untamed excitement, fervently blabbering about how their prayers had been answered. Their reactions were just. The return of any cult classic comedy sitcom is something to celebrate, especially after laying dormant for seven years. Now that the "Arrested Development" frenzy has died down however, the severity of the situation is hitting fans like a ton of bright orange bricks. There's a brand new season of "Arrested Development" arriving on Sunday. At last.
Amidst all the anticipation, various cast interviews shed some light on the show's most lovable, zany characters and give diehards an idea of what to expect from season 4.
Fans will be glad to know that one of the show's more adorable, helpless characters, Buster Bluth, will still be tied to the mother nest come the new season. "I can honestly say that the unhealthy relationship with his mother lives on," said actor Tony Hale during an interview with Rolling Stone. "The thought of him leaving his mother's side is just emotional suicide."
Buster's disapproving father, George Bluth, also shared some insight into how is character is portrayed in the new series. When the New York Times asked Jeffrey Tambor about the theme of his episode (each episode in the new season is dedicated to an individual character), he said, "Would you boo me if I said survival? That's it. That's what he mistakes for love and that's how he operates his business. He likes to get it done... The guy buried himself disguised as Saddam! I mean, come on!"
It looks like not much has changed in the Bluth family. Although everyone's a little bit older, the absurd family antics and wildcard characters have remained unchanged. As far as plotline details, the cast has been reluctant to share too much.
"People have obviously asked me what's going to happen in the series, but I almost don't want to share anything because I want people to have that surprise," said Hale. "I want people to ride the wave of surprise, because the way Mitch is doing it is like a big game of Clue. Maybe that's not the best example, but it's kind of a big puzzle... I'm probably the worst person to ask because I don't have any idea of what's going on."
And what about the show's future? Fans have been hoping for a season 5 or a subsequent full-feature film, and although nothing has been confirmed, they can rest at ease. Season 4 won't be our last dose of the Bluths.
"Now that we've done these 15, I'm sure we're going to do more and I'm sure we're going to do a movie," said Tambor "Do we have a movie deal? No. Do we have another deal? No. But I am positive."
