The Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 officially hits the U.S. market on Thursday, but some pre-orders are already shipping, according to some customers who received shipping notifications from Verizon.

The company usually uses two-day shipping, so it's possible some lucky customers will get their phones even before the official release. There are unconfirmed rumors of devices shipping out as early as May 15, but those should have been delivered by now, and there's no word of any happy Verizon customers with S4s in hand.

This release makes Verizon the final major U.S. carrier to offer the Galaxy S4, almost a full month after the phone's worldwide debut. Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T were all quick to offer the Galaxy S4, jostling to be the first to have it in stock stateside.

Bragging rights ended up going to AT&T, after supply shortages on Samsung's end caused delays for all the carriers.

The modding community has also been waiting impatiently for the May 23 Verizon release. A method for unlocking the bootloader on the Galaxy S4 has already been found, but it won't be released until after Verizon's release date, a move meant to prevent Verizon from patching the exploit before its release.

That will probably happen eventually anyway, but not before everyone who wants to root their phone already has the opportunity.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 features a 1.6GHz eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor or a 1.9GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor (depending on country), 2GB of RAM, a 5-inch 1920x1080 Full HD AMOLED display at 441 ppi, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p HD video, a 2-megapixel front facing camera, internal storage between 16 and 64GB, an SD card slot that can accommodate an additional 64GB, a polycarbonate body, Smart Pause and floating touch tech and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
