Fan favorite Wii U game, ZombiU, is on its way to getting a sequel. According to Twitter and Ubisoft Montpelier Creative Director Jean-Philippe Caro, the game is already in the prototyping stage.

It's important to note that a prototype does not mean the game will ever reach actual development, or that it's even been greenlit by Ubisoft.

Ubisoft Montpelier recently finished work on Rayman Legends, and is rumored to be developing a sequel to cult classic Beyond Good & Evil.

ZombiU was one of the most popular Wii U launch titles. The game takes place in London in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse. The game featured a difficult survival mechanic where a player could permanently die from a single zombie bite. You would then continue the game as another person, who would need to find and kill the now zombified previous character to get their old gear back. The game also made extensive use of the Wii U GamePad, which can act as a inventory and mini-map. It can also be used for minigames such as barricading doors or opening locks with the GamePad's gyroscope.

The game was released to mixed reviews, it currently holds a 77/100 on Metacritic. However, it has since become something of a fan favorite, with many citing it to be an example of the Wii being used to tackle more mature ideas and game mechanics.

Ubisoft Montpelier was founded in 1989 and is best known for its work on the Rayman series including the original Rayman, Rayman 2: The Great Escape, Rayman Arena, Rayman Raving Rabbids, and Rayman Origins. They also developed Beyond Good & Evil, From Dust, and games for Peter Jackson's King Kong and the Adventures of Tintin

No release window, or even a development confirmation, for the potential sequel has been revealed.
