Samsung Galaxy S4 Specs: Zoom Variant With a 16-Megapixel Camera Rumored for Summer Release [Rumor]

Is the 13-megapixel camera on the Samsung Galaxy S4 still too crude for you? Take heart; a Galaxy S4 with a 16-megapixel camera is headed for release this summer, according to new rumors from SamMobile.

Previously, the Samsung Galaxy Camera offered 16 megapixels, as well as a web interface that allowed quick and easy cloud-based storage.

But photographers had to lug around both the camera and their smartphone - fine for a professional venture, but a pain for photo enthusiasts who wanted their best gear with them at all times.

Now Samsung is introducing a smartphone with the same photo capabilities, without skimping on either the camera or functionality.

The Galaxy S4 Zoom, as it's being called, doesn't bear the impressive specs of its flagship namesake, but something had to go in order to cram the hefty lens into place.

The rumors say the Zoom will feature a 4.3-inch qHD SAMOLED display, a far cry from the 5-inch display on the Galaxy S4, but comparable in size to the iPhone 5.

The Zoom has half the storage of the Galaxy S4, 8GB, but it has an SD card slot for another 64 GB, a necessary feature for a phone that calls itself a camera. The Zoom has a GPS and runs Android Jelly Bean, so in all ways it seems a capable phone that also happens to have a state-of-the-art camera.

There's no confirmation on the processor, which could be dual-core or quad-core, as an Exynos processor in this phone seems highly unlikely. No word on the amount of RAM either, though 2GB is quite standard, and the need for quick snapshots should keep that amount from dropping any lower.

Judging from the mid-range specs, though, it seems odd that Samsung is branding this phone as a Galaxy. Perhaps by this summer the company will just want to keep the name in the headlines.
