Roy Hibbert racked up 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks as the Indiana Pacers used a balanced offensive attack to get past the New York Knicks 102-95 in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinal on Sunday at Madison Square Garden.

The Pacers did a pretty good job on both ends of the floor, smothering the Knicks to just 43.2 percent shooting and knocking down 43 percent of their shots.

Hibbert was the primary reason for the Pacers' strong defense in the series opener. The lanky 7-foot center contested every shot from the Knicks and asserted his presence in the interior.

The Pacers also got solid contributions from All-Star forward Paul George and David West, who gave the Knicks all kinds of troubles in the game.

George finished with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists while West recorded 20 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks.

"I thought the guys did a good job just putting them on their heels," West told the Associated Press following their Game 1 victory on Sunday. "We were attacking, we were aggressive."

Indiana made an outstanding defensive effort containing Carmelo Anthony, who was riddled with foul troubles all night. The All-Star forward shot 10-for-28 from the field to finish with 27 points along with 11 boards in the losing effort.

Raymond Felton had 18 points and J.R Smith added 17 off the bench for the Knicks, who's played their first Eastern Conference semifinal game in 13 years.

The Knicks took a 27-22 lead at the end of the first quarter before the Pacers' offense came alive in the succeeding quarter. The Pacers continued their assault in the second half, taking a double digit lead into the fourth. But the Knicks mounted a rally late in the game, though time was not enough to pull off a comeback win.

"They did all the little things," Knicks coach Mike Woodson told the Associated Press. "We didn't start playing until we actually got down and it was desperation and we've got to play like that from the start."

Game 2 of the series is scheduled on Tuesday (7 p.m ET) at Madison Square Garden.
