The popularity of the Apple's iPad mini is affecting sales of the 9.7-inch iPad.

According to reports, 19.5 million iPads were shipped overall from January to March. Of the figure provided, 12.5 million were the 7.9-inch iPad mini. Apple does not breakdown the numbers of iPad devices sold.

The alleged numbers for the iPad mini follows the forecast NPD DisplaySearch projected.

According to David Hsieh of NPD DisplaySearch, the iPad mini was expected to surpass the regular-sized iPad.

Hsieh added that Apple currently plans to sell 55 million units of the iPad mini while the 9.7-inch iPads will sell 33 million units. The current projections differ from the original numbers Apple reportedly had planned of selling 40 million units of the iPad mini and 60 million of the 9.7-inch iPad.

Despite iPad mini's popularity, as Latinos Post reported, the 9.7-inch iPad is dominating in advertisement impressions. The regular-sized iPad accounted for 91.6 percent of ads impressions for March while the iPad mini garnered 6.2 percent.

The iPad mini comes with either 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB of internal storage with 512MB of RAM, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with 2,592x1,944 pixels, front-facing camera with 1.2 megapixels, iOS 6, and is available in black and white.

The 16GB iPad mini model costs $329, $429 for the 32GB model, and 64GB has a price tag of $529. The Wi-Fi with Cellular models are pricier, with the 16GB variant at $459, the 32GB at $559, and the 64GB at $659 when signing with either AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon.
