Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon seemed so ridiculous when it was first announced that many gamers thought that it was a joke. But the game is indeed real, and is available for download on the XBLA, PlayStation Network, and PC. Gamers interested in the game will be pleased to know that the original Far Cry 3 is not needed for this crazy, 80's parody.

What sets apart Blood Dragon from most games is that the humor, though sometimes overly crass, makes the game stand out among other action games and retro-flavored titles.

Gameplay wise, the game is fairly solid, and offers players a fun twist on the standard Far Cry 3 experience some players may expect, while still remaining fun for new players interested in just the expansion.
"Rex starts out so strong, in fact, that his upgrade tree (a linear, simplified version of Far Cry 3's) isn't terribly rewarding. Earned XP unlocks different melee takedowns, but you're very well equipped from the start. Instead of meaningful progression, Rex's guns and their upgrades define his style. An exaggerated sense of empowerment comes with carrying more grenades than is reasonable, laser machine-guns, quad-barrel shotguns with flaming shells, and some seriously devastating, hysterical tools you couldn't pay me to spoil."-IGN
Overall, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is a fun, engaging game that never takes itself seriously and offers a chance for retro gamers to indulge on some of the cheesiest, most hilarious moments in recent memory. At $15, it may have more bang for the buck than the original game.
