The Waldo Canyon Fire was 80 percent contained by the evening of July 3, according to stats at the U.S. fires monitoring website Inciweb.

The fire which started burning on June 23 is the state's most destructive in history destroying more than 346 homes and claiming the lives of two people.

As of July 3, the fire had generated a tab of $13 million and had caused housing damages totaling $110 million.

Although firefighters continue to battle a fire that remains in "extreme conditions" in certain areas as described by the Colorado Springs Fire Chief, Rich Brown, rest could be assured at least for the people who live within the city lines of Colorado Springs since the fires have been reportedly 100 percent contained, around the city that is.

According to the Gazette.com, the fires on the northern area of West Monument creek are the main concern for now and a few days should pass before a "comfortable" control of the fire can be obtained.

The Waldo fire is expected to be contained by July 8 and there have so far been no further developments on the cause of the fire.

On Tuesday afternoon, local Colorado Spring residents were seen gathered along close to the firefighters' fire camp in order to express their gratitude and support for their unrelenting will and sacrifice.
