Earlier this month, rumors surfaced that Saul Goodman, the skeevy unorthodox lawyer from AMC's "Breaking Bad," could be getting his own spin-off series. Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) brings humor and lighthearted fun to an otherwise dark, intense drama. Although Odenkirk's character helps criminals finagle their way out of legal trouble, he always does it with an upbeat, quirky attitude that entices the viewer. No matter the dilemma, Goodman always finds a way out. His book of tricks is endless, so why should they end after the series finale of "Breaking Bad?" It would make for an entertaining show, and "Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston agrees.
Cranston, who plays Walter White, the chemistry teacher turned crystal meth king pin, thinks a spin-off focused on Goodman is a "great idea." Cranston opened up about the potential new AMC series Tuesday night at the Time 100 gala. He recently earned a spot on Time's 2013 Influential 100 List.
When asked about the Goodman spin-off, he said, "Oh, I think it's a great idea. And what a title. 'Better Call, Saul.'" Cranston thinks it's the perfect way to have some of the characters from "Breaking Bad" carry on after the show ends. He'll miss working on the show and reminisced about moments shared with his "Breaking Bad" family.
Cranston claimed that the end was "bittersweet, because our characters were coming to an end, but also, the actors as a family - we were coming to an end as well." In more "Breaking Bad" news, he said that the fans "will be very satisfied with the end."
"Breaking Bad" returns for the second half of its fifth and final season on August 11. It will be sad to see one of television's most raw and exciting dramas go, but a spin-off series featuring Saul Goodman would help ease the pain.
