Jax and Daxter is heading to the PlayStation Vita. Sony has announced that the Jak and Daxter Trilogy will be heading to the handheld platform in June of this year.
The Trilogy will include The Precursor Legacy, Jak II, and Jak III. The bundled package will be sold for $29.99 in North America and €29.99 in Europe. It was previously released as the Jak and Daxter Collection for the PlayStation 3 in February of 2012. The new PS Vita version will include three additional Platinum trophies not found in the previous collection.
According to the official PlayStation Blog the PS Vita version will also include new features such as "touch-based applications of certain mini-games throughout the collection."
Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, the original game in the series, was released for the PlayStation 2 in 2001. It follows two friends named Jak and Daxter who must work together to solve puzzles, fight enemies, and discover the secrets of a mysterious group called the Precursors. The game was praised for its interesting open world design and platformer gameplay.
The game has since become a financial and critical success, with the two follow-up games finding a strong fan base as well. Jak II was released in 2003, with the third game following in 2004. A spin-off game hit stores in 2005, but a true Jak and Daxter sequel has yet to be announced for the PlayStation 3 or 4.
With Sony's recent difficulties establishing the PS Vita as a viable competitor to Nintendo's DS and 3DS systems, Jak and Daxter might just be a way to get fans interested again. The franchise has been one of Sony's most popular, with Jak ranking 28th in Game Informer's best character of the decade poll.
