Recent leaks said the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will have a metal body, but reliable leaker Eldar Murtazin says it's all just dirty PR from rival HTC.

"Rumour mill. Note 3 will be different by materials and design from current models due to success of HTC one. Really god [sic] work for HTC pr team," Murtazin tweeted.

HTC is actually trying to point out the better build quality of its HTC One, Murtazin's thinking goes, since the purported press release praised the aluminum unibody of the One, citing it as the reason Samsung was upgrading its materials.

Seems like a stretch, but HTC is severely outspent by Samsung in the marketing battle, so perhaps reverse psychology is called for.

Or perhaps turnabout is fair play. Apparently, Samsung has been accused of hiring college students in Asia to pose as HTC owners and write poor reviews of the company's products on consumer review sites.

As a tech writer, it seems like common practice for companies to hire shills to badmouth the competition, but maybe that's just an urban legend. Plenty of people believe it's happening anyway, so maybe that's all that matters.

The Galaxy Note 3 is still a long way off and won't be released until later this year. But rumors indicate it will have a 5.9-inch screen with an eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor, 2GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel camera, a bigger battery and run Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. An unconfirmed source says the Note 3 will debut in Berlin in September.

The HTC One features a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 4.7-inch 1920x1080 pixel widescreen Super LCD 3 display, a 2300 mAh Li-Po battery, a 4-megapixel "Ultrapixel" camera with enhanced low-light sensitivity with 1080p HD video, up to 64GB of internal storage and runs Android 4.1.2.
