Enrique Peña Nieto leads the Mexico presidential elections with 42 percent of the votes according to the results of exit polls issued at 8:00 p.m. local time. 

Peña Nieto's 42 percent is trailed by center-leftist, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador of the Progressive Movement with 31 percent of the total votes. Obrador is followed by Josefina Vazquez Mota of the PAN national party- the same party President Felipe Calderon belongs to- with 24 percent of the votes.

Mexican citizens started casting their votes from 8 a.m. local time until the polls closed at 6 p.m.
