The Samsung Galaxy S4 will be available from T-Mobile Apr. 24, a full week earlier than previously announced.

Unlike nearly every other phone currently offered by the carrier, the Galaxy S4 will cost $149.99 upfront, instead of $99.99. It will also require monthly payments for two years, likely the usual $20 per month.

The earlier dissembling over the exact release date was probably a ploy on T-Mobile's part to throw off competitors, particularly AT&T and Sprint.

Sprint will have the Galaxy S4 available on Apr. 27, while AT&T releases the flagship phone on Apr. 30. That release schedule closely matches the order in which the carriers debuted the Galaxy S3 last year.

Verizon is usually content to let the other carriers fight to be the first to offer a particular handset, and T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T have done just that.

At the end of March, long before any other carrier made similar proclamations, T-Mobile announced it would offer the Galaxy S4 on May 1. This may have been a move to lull AT&T and Sprint into complacency by making them think they had more time to best T-Mobile.

Indeed, AT&T later announced the Apr. 30 date, just squeaking by T-Mobile initial date, and Sprint beat them both by just a few days. With today's announcement, it seems T-Mobile will remain victorious.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 features a 1.6GHz eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor or a 1.9GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor (depending on country), 2GB of RAM, a 5-inch 1920x1080 Full HD AMOLED display at 441 ppi, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p HD video, a 2-megapixel front facing camera, internal storage between 16 and 64GB, an SD card slot that can accommodate an additional 64GB, a polycarbonate body, Smart Pause and floating touch tech and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
