America's favorite serial killer is coming back to primetime.

Premiering June 30 is the eighth and perhaps final season of the Showtime hit show, "Dexter." Though no official word has been released regarding the direction of the show, CBS CEO Les Moonves may have accidentally let the cat out of the bag during a discussion with Wall Street analysts. If in fact this is the final season of Dexter, one has to wonder if fans will see the demise of the good-intentioned serial killer.

For seven seasons, we have seen Dexter take on various characters that have wreaked havoc on society in some form. From the Ice Cream Truck Killer/brother to the Trinity Killer that later murdered his wife, Dexter was quite justified in his ritual kills - helping to make life a safer place. Yet as the series developed, we saw Dexter fight with his inner "dark passenger" that at times was not controllable. As all things done in secret eventually come to light, the seventh season had choices of Dexter's past catching up with him. His sister (Lieutenant Deborah Morgan) witnessed him slay the Doomsday killer in season six and worked hard to keep him out of trouble. Yet she finds herself forced to aide her brother by killing Captain LaGüerta after she discovers Morgan's true identity.

The first season eight teaser alluded to the fact that a once good serial killer could be headed in the wrong direction. "I'm losing control," warns Dexter. While this has never been an issue because the former targets of his wrath have been bad, the new season may have more innocent bystanders at risk.

"I've always been a very neat monster, but lately - the truth has begun to spill, and too many people have seen the full picture," notes Morgan. The death of Captain LaGüerta due to knowing too much was not the first. You may remember Dexter framing the deceased Sergeant Doakes as the Bay Harbor Butcher in season two because he got too close to his secret. Now that his sister questions Dexter's motives, will she be next?

The newest "Dexter" trailer reveals serious tension between the once close siblings with Deborah admitting, "I shot the wrong person in that trailer." Can their love for one another be enough to mend their relationship, or will the season end with another fatal cover-up?

Only time will tell.

The new season of "Dexter" will air June 30 at 9 p.m. (EST).
