Cannes Film Festival 2013 News Update: Orlando Bloom and Forest Whitaker's 'Zulu' to Close Festival On May 26th

The Cannes Film Festival has announced that Forest Whitaker and Orlando Bloom's new film "Zulu" will close the festival on May 26^th.

The film, directed by French helmer Jerome Salle, is set in the backdrop of post-apartheid and tells the story two police officers who work together to fight crime.

Whitaker and Bloom will play the South African Police officers on opposing sides.

The film was written by Salle who adapted the story from Tamara Brown's book and is currently in post-production. Composer Alexandre Desplat is working on the score and the film is a French/English/South African co-production by Pathé, M6 Films, and Lobster Film.

Bloom was last seen in the "The Three Musketeers" and "The Good Doctor." He will next appear in "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" and "Cities."  Academy Award Whitaker was last seen in "The Last Stand" and "Vipaka." He will star in Lee Daniel's "The Butler," and "Black Nativity."

Salle is best known for writing "The Tourist" with Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. He recently directed "The Burma Conspiracy," and "Anthony "Zimmer." "Zulu" marks his English language directional debut.

The Cannes Film festival has kept its official selection under wraps and will not release the complete list of films until April 18^th.  "The Great Gatsby" will open the festival while Steven Spielberg (Lincoln) will be the president of this year's jury, and Palme d'Or winner Jane Campion (Bright Star) will preside over the short-film jury.

Audrey Tatou will host the opening and closing ceremonies.

The festival opens on May 15^th.
