Samsung Galaxy S2 Update : AT&T Rolls Out A Fix, Still No Jelly Bean

AT&T has begun rolling out a brand new update for the Samsung Galaxy S2, however those hoping for an upgrade to Android Jelly Bean will be disappointed. This update is a fairly minor one that deals with a bug that turns off a users phone if the device is left idle for too long, and not a switch over to a more current operating system. The update also adds extra security measures against  malware software. Users will have to have the latest version of Ice Cream Sandwich on the phone in order to receive the update.

The Galaxy S2 on AT&T currently is running the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, behind phones that are on the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, or even the latest 4.2.2 update. One carrier, Sprint, has begun rolling out Jelly Bean for Galaxy S2 users, while Alltel has released the update to 4.1.2 for manual download.

AT&T has not released any information on when users of the Galaxy S2 can expect the full update to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. It could be anywhere from a few days to a few months or even longer until the switch. Jelly Bean comes with several new features, such as Google Now, Project Butter support for increased stability, and a new notification bar.

Some AT&T customers may be upset with the lack of Jelly Bean support they are getting from the carrier for the Galaxy S2, buS2 t this is a necessary update. Having a phone die while remaining idle is no small problem, so fixing that bug must have taken precedent over the sweeping changes that would entail switching to Jelly Bean from Ice Cream Sandwich. We will keep track of any updates concerning AT&T and the Galaxy S2 as they develop.
