Marvel's upcoming MMO, Marvel Heroes, has finally gotten an official release date of June 4, 2013. The game is being developed by Gazillion Entertainment, with production led by Diablo creator David Brevik.

Marvel Heroes will be free-to-play and supported by microtransactions, but players can purchase items, boosts, and character unlocks early to become a member of the Founders Program.

Those who are part of the Marvel Heroes Founders Program will get early access to the game, depending on which content tier you purchased. Those who've bought the game's Ultimate Pack will be let in a full seven days before the launch on May 28. Premium Pack owners will have access four days early, while Starter Pack owners can enter the game two days prior to launch.

The game is being written by Brian Michael Bendis, who has previously contributed to a number of major Marvel comics, and will feature a story revolving around the machinations of super villain Doctor Doom.

The game will be an action-centric RPG in a similar vein to Diablo. Players will take on the role of various Marvel heroes, unlocking more as they progress in the game.

Confirmed playable characters include Black Panther, Black Widow, Cable, Captain America, Colossus, Cyclops, Daredevil, Deadpool, Emma Frost, Hawkeye, Hulk, Human Torch, Iron Man, Jean Grey, Luke Cage, Ms. Marvel, Nova, The Punisher, Rocket Raccoon, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man, Squirrel Girl, Storm, Thing, and Thor.
