BioWare's Star Wars MMO lives on, with its first digital expansion launching next month. The studio has announced that the new content will be titled Rise of the Hutt Cartel, and will be available on April 14, 2013.

If you pre-ordered the expansion before January 7, you'll receive early access to the additions on April 9. On that same day, Game Update 2.0: Scum and Villainy will also be patched in, adding extra end game content, a new operation, new abilities and skill trees for all 16 advanced classes, new hard mode flashpoints, high level raid gear, and "legacy achievements."

The patch is already live on the game's test servers.

Features in The Rise of The Hutt Cartel include a new level cap of 55, a new planet called Makeb, and a new story featuring additional, fully-voiced conversations. It will be available as a digital download only, and will cost $10 for subscribers and $20 for everyone else.

Star Wars: The Old Republic launched about a year ago as a subscription based title. Despite positive reviews and a generally favorable reaction from fans, the subscriber count has been steadily dropping since then. The game made the move to free to play in November, although it has yet to be seen whether or not it can restore the game's community.

The Rise of the Hutt Cartel will be available on April 14, 2013.
