An alleged leaked photo of the next Google Nexus smartphone is making its way around, prompting a new wave of speculation on the upcoming gadget.

The photo comes from someone claiming to be a Google employee, and it supposedly depicts the LG Nexus 5. The image is very dark, and it's hard to make out many details. The only prominent detail is a screen displaying what looks like a piece of marketing for an upcoming video game, Watch Dogs.

According to the source, who at this point is almost completely unverified, Google will be releasing the Nexus 5 this October. The company is apparently still choosing between a number of manufacturer's prototypes, including this one, which appears to be made by LG. This particular version is codenamed the "Megalodon," and will feature a 5.2-inch OLED display with full 1080p resolution. It will utilize a Snapdragon 800 2.3GHz processor and 3GB of RAM.

The rear camera on this proposed device is a 16-megapixel OmniVision that can record in 4K at 30 frames per second, or 1080p at 60 FPS. The opposite side will feature a front-facing camera at 2.1 MP and stereo speakers. The device will be powered by a 3300mAh lithium polymer battery.

However, as it is practically impossible to vet this image without more information, it should be examined with a large grain of salt. It could very, very easily turn out to be a hoax, and not a particularly elaborate one at that.

At this point, all we really have to go on are rumors and speculation, so it may be prudent to wait until Google announced something before racing to any conclusions.
