Looking for an inexpensive Sony Xperia Z? If you live in the U.K., T-Mobile is offering a free Xperia Z with a £26 monthly contract.
"Orange, Vodafone and EE also have the handheld up for grabs for free, but on steep plans with between £36 and £41 monthly fees. Instead, if you choose T-Mobile through Buymobilephones.net, you'll only have to cough up £26 a month," writes Android Authority.
You get a "plan including unlimited texts, 500 cross-network minutes and unlimited data." Of course, there's a catch, as the plan only comes with unlimited internet browsing, not a full-fledged data plan.
Still, it's a tough price to beat.
The Xperia launched to mostly positive reviews, and it received the Best Smartphone and Best of Show awards at CES 2013. It is Sony's latest effort to break into a smartphone market dominated by Samsung and Apple, a task also being attempted by BlackBerry and HTC. Unlike those two companies, however, a lackluster showing for the Xperia Z will not spell disaster for Sony, so don't expect this to be the last phone from the tech giant.
So far, all signs point to a well-liked and capable phone developing a loyal fan base, though the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S IV this week could derail the Xperia Z's momentum.
The Sony Xperia Z features a 1.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2 GB of RAM, a 5-inch 1920x1080 pixel display, a 13.1 megapixel camera with 1080p video, 16 GB of internal storage and runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, though Sony has promised a quick upgrade to 4.2. It is waterproof down to a meter in depth for up to half an hour.
