Microsoft Research has released a Youtube video of new Kinect technology, which allows the device to track the opening and closing of the user's hands.

In the video, Microsoft researcher Cem Keskin shows off how the new Kinect is able to read the movements of the users hands, thus allowing the user to interact with the Xbox is different ways than the current Kinect. Keskin uses the new Kinect to navigate through the Windows 8 Apps, paint in Fresh Paint, and use the Bing Map app. To open and close apps, Keskin simply opens and closes his hands over the desired app. He can also use his hands to zoom in and out while in an app, and "hold" the paintbrush that he uses in Fresh Paint.

It has been long reported that Kinect 2.0 will ship with the brand new Xbox. This video shows that Microsoft is most likely preparing the new technology to ship with the Xbox 720 whenever it is released. The new Xbox is also expected to have a "Siri-Like" voice command system install on the new console. Gamers can also expect a new version of Xbox Live for the console, as well as a Blu-ray player. The console CPU specs have reportedly been leaked as well.

Showing off this video points to Kinect 2.0 as being an integral part of the new Xbox experience. While nothing has been confirmed, by posting this video Microsoft is almost guaranteeing that we will see this new hand recognition technology for the next-gen console. All signs indicate that we will be seeing more of this new technology when the Xbox 720 officially is revealed to the public later this year.
