Back in January, a company called Xi3 revealed the "Piston" PC at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The tiny, cube-like computer is reportedly modular in design, allowing you to combine multiple units into a larger, more powerful machine.

While the technology itself was pretty interesting, as well as fairly ingenious, it got even more intriguing when Valve revealed that they had invested an undisclosed amount of money into the project. It was apparently one of a few financial ventures aimed at making it easier for gamers to get Steam's "Big Picture" mode set in their living rooms.

Valve is the developer behind games such as Half-Life, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Portal, and Left 4 Dead. They are also the creators and owners of Steam, the leading platform for digital games distribution.

Now it looks like a second big studio is getting involved with the Piston, perhaps even pursuing a game with it in mind.  Infinity Ward, the developers of the immensely popular and influential Call of Duty franchise, are apparently working on something for Xi3's Piston.

The company posted a photo of an Infinity Ward-branded Piston PC to their Facebook page last night. The cryptic caption simply reads, "game development."

Later on in the evening, Infinity Ward posted a similar picture to their official Twitter account. The accompanying Tweet reads, "What's this?"

There's very little information to go on past that. It's possible that it may relate to a Call of Duty game in some way, as Activision current owners of Infinity Ward, revealed last month that a new Call of Duty was in development, and set to be released in 2013.

Beyond that though, we can only speculate on what Infinity Ward and Xi3 are working on together. In any case, the developer's credentials combined with the fascinating new technology should result in something worth keeping an eye on.
